Hoops for Hope

Sponsored by Portland Church of Christ

March 20, 2010

As Cambodia emerges from the devastation and genocide of the Khmer Rouge regime, many of its resilient and hard working people still live at a level of poverty that is hard for people in the First World to comprehend. The Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE opened its doors there in 1996 as a training center for medical professionals while providing 24-hour health care to thousands who are medically under-served.

More than half of the patients at the SHCH live on less than one dollar a day. Thankfully, services at the SHCH have always been provided entirely free of charge. For this reason the people of Cambodia refer to the SHCH as the "Angel Hospital", and as "a place where a person can receive a new life".

The miracles that happen at the SHCH are only possible because of the support that is provided by people like you.

Hoops for Hope Portland is a sports endurance adventure created for the purpose of raising money and awareness for the Sihanouk Hospital in Cambodia. To sponsor a participant click, the donate now button below.

by Steve J. : January 31st, 2010

Welcome to our fellowship
by Steve J. : January 24th, 2010

In Matthew 11 Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for you souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Who doesn't face challenges today that can sometimes make you feel heavy hearted and burdened. The invitation Jesus gives goes unheeded much of the time but to those who do hear his voice the offer he makes has no equal. Compared to the tonnage many of us try to carry on our shoulders, Jesus' burden is light. Compared to the baggage we drag around, the monkeys on our backs and the grindstones at our noses; Jesus yoke is easy. True, his is a way that doesn't always come natural to us. His way must be learned and his cause must become our cause. But he promises rest if we...More »
